Purpose

Education is special to us, and so are you.  We encourage you to connect with the ultimate power during your college experience.  Ekklesia seeks to provide connections--support and fellowship for members of churches of Christ and to encourage robust, independent Bible study among university (Truman Bulldogs, Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds, and A.T. Still University) students, faculty, staff, and the Kirksville community.  Any sincere searcher of God's way  is welcome to our devotionals and meetings.  There are no dues or fees.

Ekklesia does not seek to substitute for church attendance or replace the mission of the Lord's church.  No student organization should do that.   Believing that God loves "townies" and students alike, we encourage you to make a difference while you are in Kirksville by identifying with a church family that can nurture you and also provide you opportunities to use your talents.

Our campus house is designed to give greater visibility for the church.  We will schedule some devotionals and special events there.  You can always get ride to church from there.  Just call 627-5003.

Sponsoring Church

The Kirksville Church of Christ, 110 Pfeiffer Ave. sponsors the activities of Ekklesia and urges you to worship regularly.  Our College Class meets on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. and Wed. at 7:00 p.m.  Communion is available at the 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Sunday services.  Over the years, special and strong ties have been established with Christians all over the world.  Our homes are always open to you and your family, especially when special events fill the Kirksville motels.  Also our parking at Ekklesia is available for special events.  Please call ahead.  627-5003  Dan or Gaylene

Our hope is that you will look back on your college years as a special time of spiritual growth.  We will gladly transport you to our services; be sure and contact us below. Get involved and let your light shine in Kirksville--on campus, in the community, and in the local church.  We will gladly put you to work by leading singing, preaching, and teaching.

Internships are available, even for academic credit, for your assistance in helping us with our print, radio, and television ministries.

Campus Evangelist

Dan and Gaylene Green are retired teachers (retired young!) from the Kansas City area.  Gaylene used to teach high school math and would be a great math tutor!  They enjoy traveling--have visited all 50 states--and enjoyed owning a motorcycle.  Be sure and stop by the campus house to study or just hang out.  Gaylene enjoys assisting visually handicapped students, scrapbooking and playing games.  Dan enjoys racquet ball.  Dan is teaching the Sun. college  class at the church of Christ.  They both love the Lord and are wonderful people to know.  Drop by and get a homemade cookie and stay awhile.  Make an appointment for an out-of this world brownie!

Name

Ekklesia is the Greek word for "assembly" or "gathering" and denotes a group "called out."  Depending on context, the assembly in the New Testament can be characterized as a "mob" or a "church."  In ancient Greece, the word also had a judicial meaning and referred to the jury that heard formal grievances.  The book of Ecclesiastes is about the preacher who addresses the assembly.  Ecclesiastical matters are "church" matters.

Activities

Ekklesia promotes non-denominational Christianity through informative displays at the Campus Activities Fair and at other times through display cases in the Student Union Building.  Purple helmet fans were distributed.

All students who live on campus have  received a copy of our newsletter "House to House/Heart to Heart."  The Dan and Brandi Show on 90.7 FM is a mix of contemporary a cappella music.

We continue to look for opportunities to serve; for instance, a library of Bulgarian works has been established at the campus house for our Bulgarian students (Dr. Poyner has visited there 3 times).  Speaking of books, consider our:

Christian Bookshelf

Through Ekklesia's Christian Bookshelf ministry, we can help you get that Christian book or CD at a reduced price.  Ask Dan and browse at the campus house.
